Kelley Collins, LPC
"I am what time, circumstance, history have made of me, certainly, but I am also much more than that. So are we all." — James Baldwin
Hello, I’m Kelley. As a registered art therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I integrate various therapeutic modalities to create a strengths-based holistic approach. My practice combines insight-oriented processes such as psychodynamic psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Relational Cultural Therapy along with body-based methods like Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Art Therapy.
I strive to provide each client with holistic, individualized care that fosters healing and personal growth. My approach is grounded in a systems perspective, offering a non-pathologizing, compassionate view that acknowledges the profound impact of trauma and/or systemic oppression on an individual’s health and well-being. My aim is to create a safe space for healing, where clients are seen as unique individuals rather than as disorders or problems to solve. This aligns with my belief in the Narrative Therapy idea that the person is not the problem; the problem is the problem. My goal is to help clients build safety within their own systems, providing the necessary space for their exiled, traumatized parts to heal. I work primarily with adults and some adolescents, with a specialized focus on the LGBTQIA+ community, providing queer, gender, and nonbinary affirming care. My clients are often sensitive, resilient, and creative individuals who feel stuck, exhausted, hurt, or frustrated in their relationships and within themselves.
Using a Narrative Therapy framework, I strive to understand each client's unique story. The question I ask is not "What is wrong with you?" but "What has happened to you?" My aim is to create person-centered, individualized understanding and care, promoting self-concept clarity and leadership, and fostering a therapeutic environment conducive to healing and growth.
"I am what time, circumstance, history have made of me, certainly, but I am also much more than that. So are we all." — James Baldwin
Inspired by the wisdom of James Baldwin, I believe that while we are shaped by time, circumstance, and history, we are always much more than any one of these. My clients' stories are central to our work together, and I am dedicated to helping them uncover resources, find relief from symptoms, and shift out of old patterns. Through our work, I hope clients can reconnect with themselves and others, and live more freely in the present. I deeply respect the dedication it takes to live an authentic life and bring that same dedication to all my clients.
